Unfortunately, I have bad news yet again.  We have lost another of our longest running members.  Kurt Newman joined October 25, 1998, coincidentally at the same time as KaeBaek (Roy King) did.  Kurt was very close to one of the first people I ever met from online.  He went to Southern Methodist University and when I was looking around at schools he volunteered to show my Dad and I around campus.  We've kept in contact through all this time and he was always such a positive, fun, and easy going person which is why it hurts so much more to say that he's passed away as yet again he was a good one that made life just a little better.  He leaves behind a very young son and wife.  I'll update as I get more information.

K4H NEWS / [K4H]KaeBaek
« on: September 20, 2013, 12:03:07 pm »
This past week K4H lost one of its greatest members.  [K4H]KaeBaek aka Roy King lost his long fight with pancreatic cancer on Monday.  Roy was one of the original members of K4H joining us on October 25, 1998- a mere 2 months after K4H was formed in August of 1998.  He always had a bright and cheerful attitude, willing to help out or talk with anyone about anything.  He and I would talk late into the night about games, girls, or whatever teenage challenge I was facing at the time  He helped us form our Counter-Strike division after finding the modification in- I think- beta 1 or 2.  He stuck with us up until the very end, and his steam account will forever show his dedication to K4H and its members.  I will greatly miss Roy as he was like family to me, even though I only met him one time, a few weeks before his passing.  He was definitely my best "online" friend. :)  Even so close to the end Roy was a beacon of hope and bravery in the face of adversity.  I thought I would spend my whole weekend with him bawling my eyes out, but his bright, cheerful, and amazing outlook left me happy- not sad.  He looked death in the face and said bring it on... this sounds like an adventure!  I will never forget that and I wish him the best on his journey.

I have attached his obituary from his local paper.

This is his wife's announcement on Facebook:

"With sorrow but also joy, Roy has passed on to his next journey. Rejoice that he will be reunited with his loved ones as well as seeing the wonders of the unknown. Roy wanted everyone to remember all the good times we have all shared, and not grieve for him.
Thank you all.
With much love, The Kings"

[K4H]Bond and I are wanting to make a donation to his family from K4H to honor him and help them out with whatever they might need at this time.  If you would like to help out send he or I a message here, on facebook, or any chat program you can and we will make sure that it makes it to his family.  We will wait about a week, so please hurry.

Upcoming Events / Quakecon 2012
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:01:41 pm »
Registration opens up tomorrow at 7pm CST. The pick your seat pre-registration thing is going on again this year, but they have raised the price to $30. This gets you a t-shirt and your BYOC spot. They have higher tiers with more swag, if you so desire.

In an effort to get everyone on the same page and sitting next to each other I propose we all sit at:
B54 and B55 on the right side (closer to seat 22). This is based on the seating chart currently up at https://registration.quakecon.org

Let me know what you think!  Or if any of you losers will even attend.  They have pretty damn good internet at these events now.  So you can actually do whatever game you want.  And we will just be drinking and partying anyways so its mostly an excuse to meet up and hang out.

Upcoming Events / DFWFO Halloween Party

Last year around 700 people showed up.  There is a man-made lake that apparently is drained.  During the summer its filled up, and they have a huge trapeze swing that you can swing on and dive into the water, they have huge diving boards and such.  Its a local hole in the wall water park.  Anywho, its drained, they are setting up a motocross track.  People bring little "50s" that some people will let you ride on.  We would all camp out there, and just drink til you can feel feelings anymore.  My cousins are coming into town to go to it.  Supposed to be a blast.  Apparently they have put together a tiny little "trailer" showing you the area.  Check it out.  Oh and anyone and everyone is welcome.  I do think its $10 to get in, and I believe all the profits are going to a friend of the people putting on the event, because hes in the hospital with cancer and doesnt have insurance.  They are a good group of people.
